Looking at moving on from my current job, As I was duped in believing after 3 years id be making 27 an hour… come to find out, yeah after 3 years i’ll make 27..on my 8th year.. so im at 16 an hour right now and can’t live like this anymore.anyway there is a position open at Old Dominion about an hour drive from me. It’s for a combo linehauler/dock worker position in erie P.A. So I have some questions.
- how long will I be a slave to the docks and what’s the pay while on dock vs linehauling?
- is it set hours or is it different hours everyweek?
- ot after 40 hours?
- is dockwork loading with forklifts or by hand?
More questions to come i’m sure. Any answers would be quite helpful.

I'm sorry to hear you can't make it on $16 an hour, after 3 years, you should be in the $20 range, heck Walmart is paying $21.50 for overnight stock crew. I believe "Over Dose" is non-union company, and I think is all by the hour. There may be a different rate for dock and driving, but linehaul is incredibly boring, and dock work is a welcome change of pace. Linehaul/ dock work aside from a dump truck, is about the most "normal" hours you'll find in trucking,, they just may be from 7pm to 5am, but it's way better than an OTR gig. There may be some hand work, but 90% is forklift. I actually enjoyed that job. OD , I heard, is a great company, been around a while, and I'll tell you, if they ever loosen the regs, to get drivers that smoked a joint 2 months ago back in, it's these jobs that will fill up 1st. I wouldn't dawdle. Good luck.

Good luck with the 2 hour round trip commute to work. I did that for 3 months, nearly working 14 hours everyday, couldn't take it anymore.

They might be looking to fill a bid run that nobody wants. I believe OD does rebids every 6 months so that gives drivers the opportunity for a change if they want one. The hours should stay constant.
OT after 40 will depend on the law in PA. We don’t get it here in MD.
The vast majority of what you’d be handling on that dock job would be palletized freight at a hub terminal with a forklift, with the occasional rare hand bomb garbage. A load comes in, has to be unloaded, and RE-loaded on a trailer going a different direction with other shipments going that way.
Good luck.Farva, Doylee4693 and Old_n_gray Thank this. -
Does anyone know if they hire with an out of state licence? -
