    Hey Guys,

My husband's enjoying success as an O/O but is dealing with the soaring costs of fuel and admin fees associated with the comdata card. He wanted to know are most other truckers forced to use this fuel card as well? I thought a business credit card could help absorb some of the costs. What are your experiences?

Credit card interest is a problem unless you pay it in full.

The interest rates are heading upwards, has been for 6 months now at the Fed Rate.

I only used the card for fueling and to facilitate direct deposit when then became my cash situation in my time. It was not difficult to wire money from my home bank to wherever I might be at and have it arrive at any US bank in a certain number of hours anytime.

Everything is going up. And will be for a while. Any way you can possibly reduce to cash only or like cash without all those fees etc it's time to do it.

Several attractive cash back or points cards out there. We operate on Southwest Airlines rewards cards (4 trucks).......Boss took the whole fam on an Alaska cruise recently using only reward points. Biggest issue I see(as a driver) is the price difference is sometimes super stoopid between cash/credit.

The fees are part of the contract with Comdata, so each carrier has a different set of fees based on their fleet size and the estimated amount of flow through cash. Some larger carriers don't have a lot of fees.

There are tricks to getting the money off, one I used a lot was to have my wife have comchecks at home, I would have the numbers with me, and when I was ready to pull money off the card, I would setup a comcheck, then tell her what the number was that comdata gave me and had her go to the bank and deposit it.

Another is using fifth third bank, no fees related to that. I would come home on a Thursday, head to the one a mile away and take out the money at the ATM. Sometimes you could use it at Walmart to take money out too.

Is he getting fuel discounts with Com-Data? Might look into Fleet One if he's not.

How is he forced to use the comdata card? Do a search one here for "fuel cards". You will find some options there.

We use Comdata. The only benefit I see is having 1wk to pay the bill and the convenience of using a card. They don't even report my good pay history to the credit report! Every gas station seems to be "out of network" so we don't see the per gallon savings. I'm thinking about switching to FleetOne.
