I think that getting all the endorsements will open doors for you getting hired. In order to get into most of Con-way's LTL, you should have a Class A license with Hazmat, doubles and tanker as they carry totes that are over 1000 gallons, and the Feds have changed the regulations (quite) a bit. Some facilities train you, while you work as a dockworker. Check their website, https://conway.taleo.net/careersection/6/jobsearch.ftl for jobs close to where you live.

Conway news in Wisconsin...
Con-way Freight plans to expand, add 55 jobs in Fond du Lac By Rick Romell Rromell@Journalsentinel.Com
May 21, 2013
Trucking firm Con-way Freight expects to add 55 jobs in Fond du Lac as it expands to a new, $8 million terminal, the company said Tuesday.
Con-way plans to build a 47,000-square-foot terminal and warehouse on 21 acres in the Fox Ridge Business Park, with construction beginning in June and completed by next March. The expanded operation is expected to employ 100 people. Con-way employs 45 at its current, much-smaller facility in Fond du Lac.
The new, 96-dock warehouse will allow Con-way to handle more than 1.6 million pounds of freight a day - nearly three times as much as the firm currently handles in Fond du Lac.
Con-way also plans to more than double the size of its Fond du Lac-based fleet, expanding to 50 tractors and 160 trailers.
Con-way is a "less-than-truckload" carrier, hauling multiple small shipments from different customers in a single trailer. Such truckers need centers, like the one planned in Fond du Lac, that serve as staging areas to receive and re-sort freight being shipped to or from local customers.
Nationwide, Con-way operates 9,600 tractors and 25,000 trailers. The carrier is part of publicly traded Con-way Inc., of Ann Arbor, Mich. -

Anyone work and Conway and know if they pay overtime? According to their LTL driver site they said you can work 12-14 hour days. Do they pay time and a half after 8? or after 40? I like the idea of hourly but do the newbies get many hours? Thanks for your help.
-
Whats the pay for starting out as a dock worker? I don't see just dock worker listed in the list for positions being offered. I would start out as a dock worker if I knew it would lead me to a driving position and the pay was good. For me it would have to be $17.32 an hour or more because that's what I make at my current job.

If you're making 17.32 an hour already, you'll make more in trucking, but probably not right away, especially not if you plan to be patient and work a yard first. Getting an LTL job with no experience is hard to do anyway, they generally want OTR experience, and all the guys that are doing their OTR now that want LTL jobs will be applying too.
Love seeing posts of all these guys expecting to make the kind of money they hear experienced drivers in good companies make after their first week on the road, lol. -
Conway may hire new drivers, but not for their line haul runs. You'll start off with OTR and then move to line haul when you get the experience. LTL simply means Less-than Truck Load. LTL doesn't mean you'll be home every night.

Conway is a good LTL company to work for and as a noob that's going to be problematic for you. If they have a driver opening you can bet your bottom dollar that you're going to be competing for that job against experienced drivers. Who do you think will get the job?
Trucking jobs with good pay and good benefits are much more competitive to get into than the mega entry level ones. (Make sense right?) Unless your mom is the administrative assistant of that company and you have a winning personality, the chances of you getting hired off the street with no experience is slim but not none. (gotta keep hope alive)
Good luck.
