Since this is allegedly the forum for HD mechanics, I figure maybe I might get some clarification on this. Hopefully it doesn't get lost lol. I have 2 questions. The first one is Canada specific and the 2nd one may be relevant to the US.

Are there any Red Seal Journeymen on here that have gone back and obtained a Blue Seal? If so, how does one go about it?

2nd question: What kind of training or degree is needed to teach in a technical college? So far from what I've researched it appears one at least needs a Bachelor of Education. Also, apparently if you are a Certified Red Seal Journeyman they will count that as 2 of the 4 years needed to obtain the degree.

If anyone could help me out or at least point me in the right direction that'd be great!

    Goodysnap and Oxbow Thank this.

I know in the states. I went to tech school to be a HD mechanic. My instructor was a great guy. It was his first year teaching. He came straight from a dealer shop, with about 20 years of twisting wrenches. He had no formal college, other than trade school himself.

I'm pretty sure we need some sort of course or degree to teach up here. During one of my apprenticeship years we had a guy who was doing a teaching practicum under my instructor for that year. Being in my early 20's I never thought to ask him what course(s) were needed. I'm just trying to open up my options a bit for when I get older and beat up from this job.

We need someone to teach the new guys. A good tech is as rare as a good driver!

I like to be versatile. I can wrench and drive (well get a truck from A to B, haven't been behind the wheel of a TT in about 2 years. My shifting is probably pathetic now lol). Be kind of cool to add a few more skills/assets to my resume.

    noluck Thanks this.

In saskatchewan nothing special is required to teach. Most instructors have their red seal and experience on the job. You get a bonus/ extra pay if you do a couple university courses on teaching.
