Many times, a company will hire outside of their “hiring map,” but it may mean less frequent home time. If you decide you want to relocate, you might find a company that is willing to give you a little “relocation assistance.” I’ve seen companies do that. Best bet is to call up the company and speak to a recruiter. The good news is, with all the pandemic related unemployment bs, most companies are hurting for drivers and will bend over backwards to hire on a qualified driver who is willing to work.

Yes, start out flatbedding. Go with a company that has solid training, and keep it simple starting out.

You don't have to worry about falling off a trailer if you're mindful of a few things. Don't get in a hurry, watch your steps, and plan ahead.

I started in flatbed first. It was beneficial because once you learn to back a spread axle, it makes backing a van so much easier. Also if you went to van or reefer afterwards, it would make you more sensitive to load securement inside the box.

I started in flatbed and have only ever done flatbed. Consider saving your money and letting the company you go to train you and pay your way. TMC or Millis. Avoid Maverick and Prime.
