1. Attention employers: We now require a valid DOT# for anyone wishing to post a driving position. If your job offer doesn't contain a DOT number, it will not get past moderation and will not appear in the forum. The other requirements in the sticky at the top of this section are still required as well. Thank you for understanding.

Most powers at be, think that if you owe a lot of money, you may try to steal something to help with your bad credit. Steal something from the truck, sell it, pay on whatever.
And, if you aren't good managing your own finances, you probably won't be any good at taking care of business.
Coming from a supervisor position, last thing I hate is getting calls from some collection agency wanting to know if John Doe works there, can I give them a message...I don't have the time or patience to become involved in a workers financial problem.
But, mostly they are afraid of hiring somebody that might have sticky fingers.

I think its prevalent in the trucking industry, because while with another job, your employer might be stingy about giving you a $1000 computer, but a trucking company could entrust you with a $100,000+ truck - might be a bit too much temptation for someone with credit problems. In general though, they figure that if you can't manage your personal finances enough to stay out of huge debt, you might not be organized enough to be a good employee.

Well I can understand that statement but I think employers are going to far with this,I mean if you have bad credit, that souldnt matter. If someone was so worry about there credit being bad then they would pay there bills. But the saying go's how can someone pay there bills if they cant find a job.Money doent grow on trees, lol.

Ding ding ding, we have a winner. I believe that statement hit the nail right on the head.

Course if you've lost your job, your house, your car, etc, because the idiots who ran the banks destroyed the economy for us, you may as well march on down to the happy fun welfare line. No job for you, you've got bad credit, lol.

Well without turning this into a huge debate about debt and the economy, a lot of people are in such trouble not because they lost their job and then lost their house, but because they lost their job and then couldn't pay for their house, their expensive truck, their wife's car, the kids' cars, the four jetskis, the ATV, the travel trailer, the waterskiing boat, the home theater, and the $10,000 worth of other stuff they just charged on their credit card.

I'm definitely not the voice with the most experience as I'm young and have few expenses, but I believe in general most people know what they can or can't afford; some people just choose not to live within their means, when the economy is good they can get away with it, but as soon as they lose their job, their "savings" get drained in a few months.

Or days. Most people have been living paycheck to paycheck for years no matter how much they make.

Black market goods is very prevelant (or used to be) in the trucking industry..if you have a large debt or group of debts, you could also be a target for someone trying to smuggle into or out of the country, goods, drugs, munitions, laundered money from drug deals...if you are offered "X" amount to do a quick trip for some criminal type..it can involve the company through confiscation of the truck and trailer.

Also the hassle involved with wage attachments for bad debts, child support and the likes is a large burden on the company...instead of one direct deposit for wages, now the company has to figure the percentage to one or more owed places by the employee. The company is not your bill paying agency..if you get my drift.
