not to sure how much of this is correct but as i was talking to a dealer the other day while looking for a new truck he said he heard that Cummings will be stoping all production of semi engines within the next year. anyone heard anything about this? i tried searching the web but found nothing. where Cybergal, she may be able to find somthing on this.i know there are alot of fans of the Cummings out there, personally i like the Detroit's, especially the 60 series. the Volvo VN i driove for my last compmay had a Detroit 60 in i and it lasted 1.5 million miles before giving up and that was due inpart to our inept mechanic.

You mean Cummins?
There isn't anything I can find confirming that. At least not in any of their press releases. -
You are thinking of CAT.
bullhaulerswife Thanks this. -
You are correct W900, it was Cat that would discontinue making the diesel engines for the roads. Most in part because of emission standards.

Cummins Inc., a maker of heavy-duty diesel engines, plans to cut as many as 200 jobs as it moves production of some heavy-truck engines from Indiana to New York.

yeah either he was talking about cat and said "CUMMINGS" jes kiding typo earlier, or he may have been talking about the move. -
WOW hope Cummins don't stop making engines! We won't have any motors worth anything to put in trucks anymore! Since Cat is pulling out we will be stuck with a boat anchore(Detroit) or a motor that is made by the truck manufacturer!
-
cal Detroit what ya want, but i have seen them last longer then most other engines. just because they dont put out 1000 HP, which is just rediculas by they way, doesnt mean there not a good engine.ya want a 1000 hp motor, then by all means throw away yer money on maintenance and fuel. i however will stick with reliability and economy. -
The 430/470 Detroit was the best motor they ever had! The 500 was junk, no fuelmileage or HP. I haven't talked to to many people with the 500 that was happy. I have a friend that had a 430/470 bumped up to a 485 that was getting over 7mpg and was out pulling 500's easily. He traded that truck in on a pete witha 500 and lost fuel mileage and HP. I could understand the loss of mpg's but that 500 should have run better than that 470!!
-
my Detroit was bumped up to around 435 HP, i was happy with that, and for a truck with over a million miles on it was still gettin 6.5mpg. if i can buy a truck i will get one with a detroit 60 in it.
please dont think i am raggin on anyone in here for there choice. i am not. my opinon does not meam i am right and everyone else is wrong.we all have different choices.
the one thing i like about Detroit is the parts are more readily available, atleast out here in oregon, plus a littel cheaper.
