You obviously have not yet seen one with rods sticking out of the block at 500k miles then. Just because yours went 1 million dont mean the next one will. Thanks for letting me know i threw my money down the drain with building power too since i improved my millage by an easy 2mpg and more.

Stick a 430 detroit in a large car truck running a head wind through the mountains and you will see 3mpg out of it while getting passed by all the high torque engines.

actually i live in Oregon, out here we have MOUNTAINS, never once had trouble climbing them and i drove them 6 days a week. at 70,000 pounds i still did 20 -25 up the MOUNTAINS. high HP does not mean high torque

i really got nothing against Cat, i just dont understand some one needing 1000HP. i have drivin trucks with Cats, didnt get much of a good feel for the engine cause the truck was just horrible. that had to be the worst truck i ever drove. i just really like Detroits. havnt been on Cabbage in a long time, been atleast 3 years, last time i went to Onterio OR i went out of Lakeview, that hwy was not fun

The people who think a Detroit has enough power just have never driven a truck with a real engine under the hood. I hate to admit this but I made two short trips with my father-in-laws vulva/430 detroit/10spd hauling soybeans to a elevator, grossing 92k and all I could think was I wish my largecar had a wetline. What a turd, I just hope nobody saw me. Detroits are the main reason they built passing lanes for the rest of us

like i have said before, have all the HP ya want, but i will take economy over being able to brg about passing other trucks on the hwy. 80000 punds loaded in my volvo and i had no problem pulling a hill. but hey what do i know, i have only been driving for 5 years and my expeiance is nothing compared to youngins who know it all

Well i been doing it for almost 7 myself and 9 total with the old man, the 7 was all my own personal trucks. But whos braggin....

You still dont get it, when you put a low torque engine in a large car ie: Peterbilt 379 or Kenworth W900L you are going no where fast in a head wind and will get crap for millage, we're not talking vacuum cleaner volvos! Drive a high HP engine right and you will achieve great fuel economy in a REAL truck!

If you run coast to coast down the south island you have to go over the southen alps not far in miles but one section is 17% concrete road been over it a few times.
They used to have a old CAT 992 loader sitting at the top off the hill for anyone that got into trouble.
