Well, if you have that EGR cooler welded up, do you know if coolant side is welded or the exhaust side? Or both? How about the fuel pump, has it been rebuilt? They have a tendency of grenading motors.

Was the SCR box removed and fixed when you had this tune done? Or did they leave it alone?

New pump a few months back but I think the fact the key was left on till batteries died is what I need to focus on

I'm thinking a power issue from just being dead most likely. You will know soon enough if it straightens up or not

I don't think the batteries are the issue, sounds like you have a bad tune. If the fuel pump was rebuilt, that is good. But then the SCR system, was the box removed and welded and reinstalled or did they not bother with it? Then the EGR Cooler side, the cooler is needed to cool the #5 and #6, especially the #6 piston/liner that you may have issues there, or you will in the future, and they are catastrophic. The SCR unit, if not done properly will load up with soot, and more than likely is the issue at this point. When it loads, it will do what you describe, the motor is choking on itself and the God knows what they did with your programming. Sitting for ten days just allowed that soot to solidify and BOOM! Then we have the turbo, is it the OEM one? If it is, what is it doing at idle as far as how opened or closed it is, what is that percentage? I bet it is up there around 70% open. Seen this before...

If the guy that "fixed" your truck did not do the needed work to the SCR box, they usually will operate for about a year, maybe a year and a half, and then BOOM. I bet that SCR box is loaded down with soot. That is just a good guess from what you are describing and falls in line with what many of the shops are doing out here when they "fix" these motors.

Ok, saw the gutted, hopefully welded up too.
