I wouldn't beat anyone up in the scenario you lay out for taking it. Heck, if I were running up there every week for a good rate I'd probably do the same thing. However, I would at least take the time to see if there was possibly any way to get say $400 or more on a short hop from VA back down to NC instead of hauling that one all the way from Jersey. Even if the short hopper was a 45,000 lb load it would be better. But it's not a perfect world. In all likelyhood that Jersey reload works and is about as good as it gets, book it and get on with hustling back down to the money load.

I wasn't in the mindset of it being a regular deal. That would make sense because your costs are what they are so I'd look at the increase in your gross over the course of a year also.

So @VoidedNull Just one scenario that I brought up had drivers that pull for big money changing their tune. You'll find a lot of drivers in this industry tend to get blinders on and only see trucking from their perspective and business plan. In reality, there are so many ways to make money in this industry if you can see the whole picture. Time and money is what it's all about. There are many scenarios and details where your posted load would not make sense as well. Every load has to be evaluated to see if it's feasible for your operation. By running a certain pattern or lane, it's much easier to quickly make those decisions.
My operation is out of FL and I make good money on the outbound, unlike most people. My inbound is on the weak side, heck I deadheaded back from Rhode Island a couple weeks ago. I can hear it now, deadhead to FL, say what! It worked for me and my operation, and that's all that matters.

Swamp Cow? Never heard of that. Sounds terrifying but typical for Florida.

You might not realize it, but FL is a huge supplier of cattle to the midwest. Deseret Ranch (owned my the Mormon church) is or used to be the largest cattle ranch in the US.

That's where I've been hauling from at St Cloud. 295000 acres, they maintain a herd of roughly 42000 head and have an average calf crop of 36000 head.

I've always heard FL has more cattle than any other state.

Deseret has critters all over. Even in Canada we have at least one deseret ranch. I almost worked for them till they told me I couldnt bring my girlfriend until we get married...
Interesting fact, Canada has one of the largest ranches in North America.
