Hi.
I recently replace the head on my 2009 Volvo D16f engine and now trying to time it. I don't have the timing tool that sits on the cam gear. Is there a way of doing it right without this tool??
Thanks

you are not looking for timing you are looking more for backlash timing is easy to set up do not need special tool to do it, now the backlash on gears well this is a different story for this one you definately need special tool to set it up.

timing has a 0 mark on flywheel you set this up with tdc mark on cam and cam cap should be two lines put cam tdc mark between two lines on cap and that's your timing.

just one quick question just dont understand the though proccess of taking a head of an engine when you have no idea of how to time it or put it back with proper backlash, how do u go and do this it doesn't make sense to me cuz you also have to have special tools to line the head up properly being that volvo has tools for side guides on the head. i got to tell you, you got bigger balls than me cuz i wouldn't do the job unless i know exactly what it entails to remove and install back properly.
