Any body have any hands on facts about the 600 H.P. DD16? My local dealer is making me one of those "too good to be true" deals on a '12 Cascadia with 1401 miles on it.

it is really mercedes OM473 engine, it is common rail engine with DEF(SCR), DPF, DOC, EGR, VGT, with all emission stuff
http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mercedes-Benz_OM_470/OM_471/OM_472/OM_473
really not bad engine but too complicated and fuel quality sencetive. so for use with ULSD only.
Read more about problems (Gewichtsproblematik und Kraftstoffverbrauch)
Really OM460 (MBE4000) and is more reliable but it may be used with DEF but it can meet future E6 and EPA2014 emissions so Mercedes introdused this engine for future emissions -
We have many dd15's in the area and have not heard one complaint. we have a few DD16's new ones and they are used in the logging industry, they love them.
The ULSD has never been a problem with any engine, the fuel systems are designed to use it and europe, had it before we did. The lubricity study, showed that 2% bio fuel was the very best, better than and aditive combination by far. Seeing as biofuel is added to most every diesel as a cetain booster, or as a mandated aditive, talk about a problem is just smoke. -
Common rail is the future injection system, OLD and Injector units are not acurate enought as CRD amd cant deliver so high pressure and multyinjection, so anyway we cant avoid it.
First CRD engine for class 8ucks was Renault/Mack DCI 11. It was not reliable and we have many problems with it, but, Mack did not solve all these issues being joining Volvo, they just discontinued CRD engines and now they use Cummins and Volvo engines only.
Later MAN mad D20 CRD and now they are widly used in International trucks but all you know about Maxxforce issues.
Mercedes (IMO) made the best CRD engine for heavy trucks now, even better Scania XPI and Cummins XPI.
