I can't speak for fuel mileage because I have never paid attention but we have a ton of dd13 trucks at work and I haven't seen any problems with them. A lot of them are slip seated and get the #### beat out of them by drivers that don't care too and they still just keep going.
I have read that after 2013 they have become better. No clue personally as I am curious to this question as well.
I personally wouldn't risk getting a fleet truck with that mileage and automatic transmission (no matter the engine). It's gonna be a maintenance nightmare
I personally like the dd13 better than the 15.. they are both boat anchors in my opinion but hated the 13 just a tad less.. the 13 has more torque also for some reason
Well I bought mine (2015) used through ruan truck sales with 467k for $43k. 100k mi later no problems yet. I change the oil religiously and add injector cleaner solution to every 3rd tank of fuel. From what I've researched the 13 liter engines have less problems. I've been hauling chemicals in a straight bore tanks with it. The truck took a pounding like a rented companion until I got the hang of the surge. Unfortunately the value of the truck is worth less than a lot of cars on the road but its holding up.
