seasons greetings I have a fld120 glider that was wired for a ddec iv 12.7 but I have a ddec v 14L that I would like to drop in so I can get the truck back on the road. What is needed to be done in order to make the swap work.

That maybe a tough one. I beleive the DDEC V was the first Detroit engine to introduce the MCM and the CPC (instead of the sole ECM. Meaning you would have to have the CPC (CAB computer) out of the donor truck. The DDEC IV used the J1939 protocol to comunicate with the cab electronics /dash. The newer version uses CAN protocol to communicate to the CPC. The CPC then communicates the J1939 to other on-board systems (ABS, transmission, etc). And receives the inputs for road speed, throttle position, Jake brake, fan control, etc.

Now with all that confusing stuff said. Anything possible with the right amount of time and money.

The easiest way I can think of would be to get the computer, wire harnesses, and dash from the donor truck and install it in your FLD. There are people on this forum that know more on this and probably have a better, simpler, and less time consuming way. But I’m at a loss.

As far as I know DDEC-V still had just the engine ECU, DDEC-VI used MCM and CPC.

I'm pretty sure DDEC-V uses different connectors and terminals than DDEC-IV, so you will have to rewire the vehicle wiring to the ECU, or find a suitable vehicle interface wiring harness that matches your truck and the DDEC-V ECU, if these exist at all.

I have pdf Application and Installation manuals for both IV and V, I can mail them to you, so you can research and go from there. Send me PM with email address and I'll try to send both of them to you within next couple of days.

Let us know. I have an old 12.7 ddec IV. Wouldn’t mind 14.L torque without all the negatives. I’m wondering if I can build mine ( change crank etc into a 14 L .esentially a 12.7 stroker.
