Hey again all. So I am about to go with SNI for training for a dedicated position with AN-Busch hauling beer. It's a weekly gig and apparently I will burn up my entire 14-hour clock but just wondering for someone starting out like me. Better to go OTR regional? 48? or give dedicated a chance? I've heard there is lots of waiting around not getting paid though with this dedicated account. Appreciate it.
Dedicated or OTR?

All 48 is overrated. being dedicated allows you familiarity among customers. It allows you to know routes. This increases efficient and better productivity. All this makes for more monies. Also.... You learn where u can park which is huge. OTR dont have that luxury because they can be anywhere at anytimeLoneCowboy, tscottme, Redtwin and 4 others Thank this. -
I can't say anything about Schneider, but when I got into trucking I started with roehl on the national fleet. After about six months of that I got into a dedicated account hauling for silgan cans. I loved it. Most of the silgan people were great to work with, the freight was predictable and easy. As was the routing. I also found that I got treated better as a dedicated driver. We had a little more freedom with our routing (for example we could use toll roads when the national guys couldn't). I am glad I started with the national fleet to get the experience, but ultimately I enjoyed the dedicated gig much better. Probably would still be doing it if it paid better, but once I got my year in with roehl I moved on to better paying endeavors.
Again, my experience is obviously with a different company and a different customer. I can't say how it would compare at Schneider, but based on my experience I would say give it a shot.tscottme, Puppage and Rocknroller4 Thank this. -
Dedicated offers familiarity, eventually. It gets comfortable. Likely boring after a term.
48-OTR offers you adventure! And all the associated stress....... Everyday.
Edit: That said - I'm local, I do mostly triangles with the tank. On the rare dry van haul I'm always thorough.... and usually miserable. I prefer familiarity. The unknown doesn't scare me, I just resent it from hook to unhook.tman78, Rocknroller4 and GetRid70hr8dayRules Thank this. -
OTR less metro in theory. less home time. Whatever you do build a good reputation for yourself and no worries.Puppage and Rocknroller4 Thank this. -
Thanks for the info all.

Dedicated can get boring really really quick and it is really for those who have the tolerance for boring stuff.
If you burn your 14 in a day and end up banging up to the 34 weekly, I recommend you get out of the truck at least once a month to do something away from the truck, no matter what it is because you will burn yourself out fast if this is the first thing you do as a job. -
at least, this is what i have heard.
i am dedicated myself, but certainly NOT at An B......
you can try it, see if you like it, then switch over to OTR later, and that's if they will let you without about a 27 year waiting list. -
The thing Ive found is.... Dedicated vs OTR.... You will burn hrs no matter what. question is.... Do you want to do your 34 over the road at some piss smelling truck stop or would u like to do a 34 at home? Im assuming you are talking about a Dedicated Account and not a dedicated Route. Also regional work is considered OTR when it come to technicality.
Another myth is that dedicated is the same route and same locations... Not true. Ive been on a dedicated account where I haul elevators and part in the northeast. I load out of a singular warehouse but the places I deliver is always changing. So dedicated Accounts just means that customer you are pulling for is the source of the contract.Kyle G. and Rocknroller4 Thank this. -
We have some regular customers which results in regular routes, and while the same old trek can get tedious I look forward to knowing exactly where I'm going, what to do when I get there and the parking situation should I run out of hours.Rocknroller4 and buddyd157 Thank this.
