Had one cross from the median on the left side last summer.

The deers timing was so bad, my whole tractor was able to clear its path before it reached me.

It face planted itself into the side of my trailer, bounced off and hit the 4 wheeler passing me in the left lane.

Lost count, drive at night as a rule, and that can't be changed. Sunrise and set, twilight times and moonrise and set, are the most active times, solunar tables giving major and minor activity times can predict animal activity.

XXGUARD is what we have now on trucks.

Lol, I had an owl torpedo me one night!
I’m looking out the windshield doing 70 or so and here it is coming in at 12 o’clock. Wings fully tucked, coming in hot! All I’m seeing is big owl face heading towards my windshield..

I yelled “pull up” a couple times but unfortunately ended in a thud.. luckily missing my windshield.

Got another one also in the middle of the night..summer time with my drivers side window down. That little sucker hit my mirror frame and freaked me out.. thought it ended up inside my cab behind the seat!

Good that you are thinking about what you should do if you are faced with the decision.

Condition your mind now and save yourself from indecision later.

All you can do when it’s an animal is stay the course. Do not swerve! Get on the brakes (just to minimize impact damage) as hard as you can without putting your truck into a skid...

    Someday I’ll post a video of a cow I hit at 65mph..

The King's deer, like in the Robin Hood story.? If you poach them they belong to the king ( state nowdays). When you hit one its yours. I try to slow down, if i can, and stay on course. Don't wreck for much of anything. Including other vehicles. When you are in the ditch, or worse and nothing else around you, the odds are against you when the explanation is due.

slow down while continuing in my lane. Truck drivers die when they leave the road surface or rollover. You don't want to kill a driver or destroy a truck/freight to save a $100 deer.
    HIT THE DEER.

You can hit a black bear in NC or TN. That's where I've seen them hit.

Every time I've tried to shoo a deer by blowing my horn they have either done nothing or what they did was worse than what they were doing before I hit my horn. The last encounter 3 deer were crossing the road as I approached. I blew my horn as the last deer in line was almost on the shoulder going toward the grass. When they heard my horn all 3 turned around and re-crossed the road and I nailed what had been the lead deer square in the front bumper. Deer, like horses are flighty animals. Maybe the country boys can predict what they are going to do.

I suspect since they move at night and in low light conditions they are blinded by headlights, like a human looking into the sun, and that may be why sometimes they just stand and look at you as they are about to become road kill. I believe their brain is the size of a walnut, or maybe that's dispatchers.

When I was pulling a loaded tanker and a deer came out in front of me I would put the hammer down. Better to be on power when I hit the deer than hitting the brake and have that tank trying to push me the wrong way.
