    So group guys where having a discussion yesterday and one guy says I go on the road 5 days a week and I come home on the weekend I drive to NJ,PA,MD,VA,TN,NC and SC. The other guy said that's not real over the road because you not going cross country? So this had me thinking what is considered OTR.

    True OTR is coast to coast & border to border.
    Jonkie is right; the other is regional.
    I hate regional or local.

    Rocks and Jonkie Thank this.

    Me too , last carrier were good people but running produce out of Cali and meat or Tony's pizza back from the Midwest got a little boring and I could never run myself into good weather zones if storms were forecast

    In my opinion, Abilene Motor Express is about the best OTR company for dry van/reefer. Lots of drop & hook and 100% no-touch freight. They have good long runs coast to coast. I'm sure there's others, but that one really stands out to me.
    @Jonkie
    I hauled more produce out of Florida than anywhere. Usually canned goods out of California; mostly Lodi,CA.
    I ran hazmat tankers out of Nashville and it was true OTR to California, Washington and about anywhere else.
    That's what I like.

    I understand that; I'd almost feel guilty doing drop & hooks; like I wasn't earning my paycheck...lol.

    Are you that way too ? When you take a run with little traffic , good weather , easy in and out ? I feel like I robbed someone if I didn't curse at least once on the way

    Chinatown Thanks this.

    I drive for a very small carrier that belongs to a non-profit organization (don't want to disclose name). We are solo drivers and go 48 states. Seems that lately it's becoming more and more difficult for us to get good paying loads... rates have been dropping... went down to $1.05 per mile and yesterday broker had the "audacity" to offer $0.85... :biggrin_2552: Seems we can't compete with big carriers that run lots of dedicated and regional.... We drivers do prefer long runs... at least one thousand miles but I guess in the future we'll be doing more short runs like 400 miles and so cause they pay more (to the company)...

    Chinatown and Jonkie Thank this.

    Yea times are changing for OTR runs like that... Trying to stay ahead of the game is really the theme these days.
