Has anyone replaced the Delphi head unit and touchscreen with an aftermarket system? and can you just rip it out and put the new unit in? Because the Delphi 601 has the digital gauge system with it which I rarely use if ever and to be honest it's got to be the biggest pile of cap ever made, and I just wanna get it out of my truck and install a Kenwood or Alpine... But I don't wanna just rip it out and find out all of a sudden that something isn't working properly.
Any info would be gratefully appreciated.

I’m just guessing that it won’t be a simple remove and replace because the factory unit is probably tied into the cab control module. But I could be wrong and it wouldn’t be the first time.

Looks like a newer W9, in his profile pic.

There’s a certain level of integration, as my T680 has reverse mute. However, it may just be a feed from a module/sensor to the deck. I highly doubt there’s any “brain” in the deck feeding the BCM with relevant info. It’s gotta’ be a one-way deal.

I had a motorhome with the deck being integrated into the camera system. When I upgraded the stereo, the shop went straight into the wire harness and utilized only what feeds they needed to give me the reduced level of integration I wanted. I had them remove the reverse mute and eliminate the mirror camera feeds. It didn’t affect the chassis, as it’s not relying on the stereo for any type of signals. Again, just a one-way deal.

Might have to talk to Kenworth and see if they have anything to say. Appreciate the input guys.

I’d venture to say you’ll have better luck at a car stereo shop. These decks have a pretty similar commonality in their wiring harnesses. When the shop pulled my motorhome deck, the installer started telling me what every wire did. He said, for the most part, they’re all the same. A truck dealership isn’t going to have that kind of knowledge, as they just don’t do that type of thing, everyday. Plus, if you’re at a shop and they recognize the KW harness, they can probably take care of you with a new deck, while you wait. Just be done with it in one shot.

Check with a stereo shop. If lucky Pac or Metra might have an interface module to make it work. If not… Gut everything and start new.

Ya I agree I think that's the best approach. Then at least I'll have piece of mind knowing it's done correctly.
    Thanks boys.
