Can't get my motor started after I shut down for a dinner stop. I've looked at the most obvious things. It turns over like it should. What am I missing?

The checkvalve in the fuel return line. When it fails, all the fuel drains from the head when you shut the engine off. It takes a real effort to start it again. Detroit engines are the worst for this.
Easy fix but sometimes very hard to get to unless you're REALLY skinny and have long arms.the flying scotsman Thanks this. -
hhmmm if the check engine light comes on while your trying to start it maybe a little shot of ether in the airbox may help her along...if the check engine light doesnt come on while your turning her over i would try putting a little diesel into the filter??

I put some fuel in the top of the filter, turned the key and she started eventually! I tried a restart about an hour later and she started right up. I'm headed for lakin tire and sfs, so I'll check with the shop on that fuel return line. Thanks everybody.
the flying scotsman and dave26027 Thank this.
