Took my truck in to find pinion seal that blew out but had a lot of big chunks in my housing once we took it apart to see because the yoke had so much play,. Ordered a reman to be put in. Also have drive shaft got work done
shop is advising to take apart wheel bearings, races, and change out wheel seel on both sides, or don’t have them clean out the banjo housing and out new fluids and go
My think is right now my bill is gonna be around 4800, if I do the wheel seals, bearings, and races on the axel that jumps it to 7600..? Does it all need to be taken apart?
Differential question

Fix it now while its a part, or do it on the side of the road. Your choice.
Star Rider Thanks this. -
2k sounds high for bearings, seals and races.
Star Rider, Deere hunter and beastr123 Thank this. -
That’s high, where did you take it to ?
Star Rider and Deere hunter Thank this. -
Are they on coke? $2800 to do wheel bearings/seals on one axle? That should be like a 2 hour job MAX per wheel end plus parts. I mean the axle shafts are already out. They may not even have to do the bearings, if they aren't damaged or pitted I'd just clean everything, put a new seal in and put it back together.
That said, 100% yes get it done. Very likely the debris floating around in the diff made its way out to the wheel ends. Doesn't hurt to make sure they're good.Star Rider, Deere hunter and Diesel Dave Thank this. -
Yes, it needs to be done. But that price?
Star Rider and Diesel Dave Thank this. -
It’s a bit steep I’m in Greenville South Carolina, I park my truck nearby and it’s a local shop. But a lot of shops around here I haven’t had great luck with Atleast this one puts the parts they say they will be others I have experienced.
i just thought it was a bit high but it’s already there and while I’m at it Atleast that whole axel assembly I know what was done. I just wasn’t sure if all that had to be taken out just adds more time and money -
I appreciate the input it’s just a tough hit wasn’t expecting it

I would question that $2800 quote for inspecting/replacing the wheel bearings. In my mind that quote is nearly double what I'd have anticipated.
Deere hunter, Diesel Dave, Star Rider and 1 other person Thank this. -
Lets break it down on the expensive side, if they just replace everything.
4 bearings @ 150$ = $600
2 seals @ 50$ = $100
2 sets brakes @ 60$ = $120
2 axle gaskets @ 10$ = $20
16 locknuts @ 4$ = $64
5 gallons synthetic oil @ $200
$1104 parts, if gear oil wasn't included already. Was any of the labor included in the $4800, or just rear end?Star Rider and AModelCat Thank this.
