Your right about everything in between the trans and rear. Were talking about 22% more torque and it could be a problem. You can spec heavier duty parts and thus be ok. If I were building a truck in this config i would make sure to spec everything with higher torque ratings just to be sure. Keep in mind, as you shift through the lower gears you will experience even more torqe then direct. Once crusing in direct there wont be as much change.

As for a clutch, I don' t know enough about how the trans works to know for sure, but its designed to run in 1st gear which is a heck of a lot worse then direct for torque. You can also get a cluctch speced with a few hundered extra foot punds to be ont he safe side. All this being said, I haven't heard negatives of parts falling from direct users.

If that's to me, I'm not a trucker, just been working on the things for quite sometime. If I were specing a trans/rear setup say for heavy, I'd want a 13 or 18 with a diff ratio in the mid to upper threes, and of course a good huffing and puffing 6nz.

Smart choice, but the question was for Richter.

Gears multiply torque, when you're in direct on either high or low side, that passes straight through to the input shaft. When you're in final drive direct, which I'm assuming that would be the gear you would want to be in the most, your passing the strain straight through the majority of your driving time.

I'm running 3.55 with a 13OD. I did run a 2.64 before i bought mine and loved it (as a company driver). I would have bought a 2.64, but couldn't find any old trucks in decent condition with it. My budget on my first truck was pretty low and a good motor, maintenance records, oil samples, etc etc etc were more important then getting the rear i wanted. in 06, they didn't make many 2.64's. its a relatively new idea.

My next truck will be a 2.64 since i can afford to buy something newer. I don't agree with KR that old trucks costless in maint (although i don't have real world experience with a newer truck yet) Maintance is wast to high on this truck though and i would be wiping my bum with 100 dollar bills if i could get it under control. Im hoping a newer truck wont have all the little things go wrong.

yea, its not more strain then the normal od set up, it just your crusing with that strain instead of getting through it and going to a new gear with less torque. You pass through direct in an OD trans lol. But your right..this is a concern. the answer is just spec everything for 22% more torque.

We don't run wide base singles up in Canada, it is not very common because you are only allowed American weights. We run 87.5k gross up here and that extra 7.5k is a big deal.

Line Energy d (without the XONE) is the most fuel efficient dual drive tire. I'd spec for that one.
