as an owner/operator is it worth using a dispatch service at around 5% rather than doing all the research back and forth on load boards to get good quality loads

Do it yourself. I know it’s only 5%, but you get nickel & dime’d out of all your profits at 3-5% for this and for that. When all of it is easy enough to handle yourself

    Yea it’s worth it.

I can dispatch myself and do sometimes, but it’s not something I want to do every time. If you are working hard there just isn’t time to dispatch yourself. Some markets are so hot you need to book a load within a minute of it being posted. Staying on top of the boards always searching and booking you will end up with a rate better than you’ll get just finding a load while you’re docked.

The problem is the dispatch services don’t give a f and it’s really only worth it if the person dispatching you has some kind of emotional attachment lol.

No, 5% of gross is a massive amount to have skimmed off the top. If you're also using a factoring company or quickpay often you might as well just lease with someone.

You want to dispatch yourself and develop a relationship with 2 to 3 brokers. Ultimately you will work directly with those brokers and not even use the boards.

The best loads never hit the boards. The brokers get them out to thier drivers that they work with on a regular basis.
