    HI!
i was recently disqualified from a trucking school after 4 days there because i failed to background check myself and didn't even know i had a misdemeanor charge for possesion of marijuana 14 years ago and they thought i was lying when i told them i honestly didn't know (my record was clean, or so i thought). i came home, ran a background check, and sure enough, it shows an arrest.

    EDIT:
    thi
s is what's weird, it showed as an arrest but I was never arrested, booked, or fingerprinted)
e Highway Patrol just gave me a citation and told me when to appear in court the charge was dismissed in court. i am going to have to apply to another company, and this time i will be sure and answer yes to that question.
my question is this: do i need to even mention that i was disqualified from that school? i would rather not because it makes me look like a liar. i want to try and apply, be honest about the charge, and be an otr driver. is it possible that could be on a record somewhere that the next company could find out about? i only have a cdl permit, never changed it to a different state, and my mvr record is spotless. i also never filled out any employee paperwork, and they said i owe them nothing, but i did have to pay my own way home on the bus (awful!). is it possible to just learn my lesson and not mention what happened to the next company i apply with, and be sure that they wouldn't know about my dq from the last school?

Oh sure, no problem at all. After all, you were just disqualified for failing to disclose. Shouldn't be any problem. Nope. Not at all.

OBTW, anybody with any brains at all, will know that you didn't get charged with possession, or anything else, and not know it. No matter how long ago.

Can you guys please wait on this one? I gotta a get my popcorn ready! Lol.

    Le sigh...

Most job apps only want to know about things within the last five or ten years. So I'm not sure why something that happened 14 years ago that isn't a dui or a felony would be a problem..

The next company will find out also. Tell the truth, you didn't list it because the charge was dismissed and you thought that was the end of it.
Put it on the next application with "charge dismissed." Most companies don't care about a charge that old as long as they know about it.
There's a dozen other companies to apply with.

So you were too high at the time to remember that you were arrested?
    That is too funny!

You need to look at this from the school/company point of view. Calm down and relax. This industry is so heavily regulated that the FMCSA does anal exams. I am assuming you were undergoing company financed school. There is a reason these questions are asked. When they are asked the company generally likes it when you are truthful. A carrier could lose their operating authority if they get lax about this. Good chance your career is not tanked, just make 100% sure all your stuff is in one sock. I'm not sure if schools are listed in DAC, but if and when you get another opportunity tell them about this and don't sugar coat it.

Oh the self righteousness of the modern day truck driver is staggering to me I sit here wondering how you all live such pure lives pure as the falling snow all of you. For the love of Christ a pot charge 14 years ago probably in a state where it's legal now and all you angels can do is judge the guy go drink your nightly six pack of beer and smoke the last of your 3rd pack of cigarettes take your high blood pressure meds and feel good about yourself because you don't have a 14 year old weed charge sometime this forum makes me ashamed to be in the same profession as you hypocrits.

My advice be honest 14 years was along time ago and this should not effect you with every company and try not to think all drivers are self righteous hypocritical ########.

A post a while back, a company found out about a charge in a sealed record that happened when a guy was under the age of 18. Most companies don't care about that or old charges; Prime and Maverick are the exceptions. The OP was probably with one of those two or maybe Stevens.

Well, it just might be that the whole post the OP made reeks to high heaven. But that's OK, you go on and be upset about being in the same profession as us so called "hypocrites." You're funny.
