OP wasn't super clear in the first post. Would have been better if he stated his remaining time on his 8-10-14-70 clocks. Also wasn't explicit on his duty status at the dock. he later wrote "went into the berth".
First time I read it I was thinking he was on duty and ran off his 14.
Follow up post it looks like he had 6 remaining of his 14 when he did whatever he did. Depends on how he logged his time. -
simply PC and do your 10hrs at truckstop.
-
Open your hood, tell the shipper truck won't start. Go back to sleep for a few hours. When your break is up ,close your hood and roll out.
-
Contrarian view. Use PC to the truckstop, and it's counted as off duty. Resume off duty or sleeper once there. Or split break with the long period in sleeper satisfied. Offset with either line 1 or 2 and only lose the drive time it takes to go to the truckstop from the fresh 11.
If you have nothing to head out for, 10 hours on lines 1 or 2 will give you a fresh 11 and 14. Just like using PC would have.. I've won many an argument, and now am taken as knowing what I'm doing with split break logging.
On another note again, I don't get checked often enough to worry about it -
They are YOUR logs. No one can (legally) tell you how to fill them out. Thats why the "well, I was out of hours but my dispatcher said..." doesnt work on cops.
I posted once something right out of the FMCSR website on examples of correct use of PC time, and leaving a shipper/receiver to go to the nearest safe spot was one of the things specifically ALLOWED. So if some know it all cop gives you a ticket for it, just smile and tell him you will see him in court. Because you will win. -
You've got to be f***king kidding me. Must be the most useless safety officer in the world......catdog45 Thanks this.

Basically, I was out of duty time being that it was more than 14 hours since I started my day. I had not yet completed a ten hour reset.
I had two options:
1. PC to truck stop.
2. Split logs to truck stop.catdog45 Thanks this. -
Lol, the three trucks waiting on the dock would have not been pleased.
-
Yes, that is not in question. One can PC from a shipper/receiver to the nearest parking if out of hours.
With a split sleeper berth I was not out of hours.
