usually what WILL happen is that you get bussed to orientation. let's use an imaginary number of 40 people.

during this time, a FULL background check is done, and if ONE thing is left off an application, or ONE (I) is not dotted or ONE (T) is not crossed, you are gone.

of course now, comes the drug test, and physical, if you do not pass either, you are gone.

next comes missing a class or being late, you are gone.

    one orientation i went to..??

we were told, you fall asleep in class, you are gone.

then comes the paper testing, (or it did back in my days), and if you cheated, you were gone.

out of a class of that proverbial 40 i spoke of.?? only about 10 get a job....

but to call up those 40 THEN tell some to go home, nope, i never witnessed that myself.

HOWEVER, the companies PAY your way to them, if you get kicked out for ANY reason, then YES, you had to get home on YOUR own...

i have witnessed MANY things at a few orientations......so i do know what DOES happen to all of the above...!!!!

It happens. But only bad companies do it. Easy to blame the companies. But just a little bit of research will tell a potential driver what to expect. People will spend more time looking up reviews on an unfamiliar restaurant than they will a potential employer. Sad really.

yes, true, but then as we all know...sour grapes are every where. there is always a back story to every situation. this particular one, is different from the "usual BS" that orientation can be.

some people may not even give a review of such companies, so let's say that only 3 did, out of hundreds, can we believe 3, over those hundreds that have a job?

reviews have to be taken with a grain of salt.

you know too, maybe while in transit to orientation, that FULL background check IS being done, and the bad ones are being weeded out at that time.

now that sucks, i agree, so there should be a better way of conducting that FULL background check.

and of course, checking with various truckers message boards for additional information.

Didn't mean to imply potential drivers should be looking for reviews of companies. Reviews are about all you have with restaurants though.

I can see getting kicked out for failing a drug test but not just because they don’t like your looks or for something on the MVR or criminal history that they could have found out prior to coming to orientation.

well that can be of "some help", but one has to be reminded of sour grapes, and "one size does not fit all".

one can look up on "ripoff report", and discern from truth to sour grapes.

one can look up "safe stat", and get "some idea" on the safety rating of a company.

it still can all be a crap shoot.

well, some companies can have a "dress code", at one time, JB Hunt DID NOT ALLOW beards!

some companies may NOT ALLOW body tattoos or piercings....

what would YOU DO, if someone like this came into YOUR business and wanted a job..??

i tell you right now, i would NOT refuse him an application, he HAS THAT RIGHT, to seek employment.

but I WOULD TELL HIM, that "at this time, all i am doing is taking applications, and i will make my calls sometime next week for the interviews"..
then i'd put an "X" on his application, and if he calls, i can see that "X", and just tell him applications are still coming in, or that i have hired someone"

that driver, WILL REPRESENT YOUR COMPANY...!!

yes, he may very well be the BEST, SAFEST DRIVER in the world, but honestly....what will YOUR CUSTOMERS THINK..??

    thug, serial killer, rapist, druggie....??

be honest now..first impressions ARE EVERYTHING,...!!

All the good and bad information about a trucking company could be located on one easy to find webpage and it won't do a bit if good to someone is too lazy or stupid to look for it.

It's why we all hear "But my recruiter said" every time a new driver has a problem.

I agree though. Even when one does research a company, it's not always easy to discern the truth from all the BS. But the companies that would leave a recruit stranded like in the story wouldn't have much good said about them. And even the BS would be somewhat true.
