I don't have any instate carriers I would work for. I live in PA. So I just rent a car. Easier on me, plus an added bonus of not being limited in my food choices during orientation week.
Besides, big companies HATE drivers who won't be herded back and forth like sheep. Shows too much independent thought.
Does this actually happen?

i have several LTL companies, small trucking companies that do OTR and regional, and out of state carriers that have dedicated runs, like the job i do now, for the past 7 years.
renting a car is a viable thing to do, if they hand you the keys to a truck to get going, you drop off the rental, or they pick it up.mangdriver and brsims Thank this. -
I've found it to be the best option. I can carry all my gear in one shot. I can (again) use it to run errands during orientation. And, if necessary, I can use it to go home or head to the next carrier on the list (after leaving a lasting impression, of course. I do not react well to having my time wasted.)Midnightrider909, hagarcobra and buddyd157 Thank this.

My opinion?
If your life is in such a state that you are dependent on a prospective employer to provide BUS transportation to your interview and orientation, and you have no way to get yourself back home if things don't work out, then you are 100% responsible for whatever happens next. Not the prospective employer. You.
Perhaps you should be looking for an employer where you can walk to and from work if needed.p608, Paddlewagon and nightgunner Thank this. -
How do you carry all your gear on a greyhound bus?
No thanks, I've only ever worked where I could drive myself there, and back if necessary.
2 Things I'll be happy to say I've never done in my life.
1) shoot a Hi-Point
2) ride a greyhound -
If you go out there being the elite top 5 % you will never worry about these kind of issues. Never do enough to get by. Take that in everything you do in life and you will be rewarded.
G13Tomcat and nightgunner Thank this. -
Blame the victim. A lot of people have no better options. These companies know this and treat them as disposable.plankton Thanks this.

Actually, the "article" was a bunch of vague crap, and only 1/2 the story at best. Put it to the test, get names, interview all parties involved. Like I said, quit playing the victim card.Last edited: Jun 1, 2018

No, we hate having you show up an hour late because you wanted Dennys instead of the hotel breakfast. Then you run out over lunch to pick up smokes, but go to the Oneida Reservation on the other side of town because its cheaper and stroll into class 30 minutes late. Finally you think class is over so you duck out early and miss some pertinent instructions.
Ask me how I came up with these scenarios? Hint, its the same reason my cruise won't work with the wipers on.Coover and nightgunner Thank this. -
And what about me, the guy who shows up early for class, fully prepared to put in the full day every day?
Don't hate on me because I'm not some flat broke rookie desperate for whatever pennies you might consider tossing my way.DSK333 and Midnightrider909 Thank this.
