Just pointing out an alternate hypothesis for why carriers might prefer a driver not to bring their own transport.

I find it odd that adults would leave their home & travel hundreds of miles with no money. Maybe People are just more dependent these days or feel entitled to a fare shake in life or their hand held.

I just read a story about the parents of a 30yr old man who have to go to court to get him th go out on his own.

The article also says they were promised employment. Now common sense should tell anyone that this is impossible since I have been to 5 different orientations & all employment offers were on condition of completion of orientation & the hire date was always the last day of orientation.
I have never had any issues getting hired at a OTR company but I have seen many applicants who washed out for showing up totally unprepared or unprofessional.

I have also seen orientation personnel go above & beyond trying to get unprepared nitwits qualified to work.

These are (supposedly) adults arriving for what is essentially a week long job interview. If they cannot manage to be in place on time during the interview (without being herded around like brand new Army recruits going to Basic), drop them and move on to the better qualified candidates. Simple and easy.

Won't be done because these big carriers are so desperate for cheap, unknowledgeable labor they'll put anyone who can fog a mirror into a truck. And treat them like cheap, unknowledgeable labor.

Another reason why big carriers hate experienced drivers. We see through the cloud of bullcrap. And generally have ZERO issue in calling out the carrier on their bullcrap. In public. In front of their starry eyed brand new rookies with fresh sunshine injections.

It's not a matter of blaming the victim. In this case, the person wasn't a victim until they set themselves up to be victimized.

I suppose agreeing to work for any megacarrier is setting yourself up to be victimized but usually that takes place after orientation and you are in their truck.

Why is a driver with "28 years experience" going to a bus and dump company? 28 years and he's forced to go to a homeless shelter because he can't afford to get back to Wisconsin from Nebraska?

It's pretty apparent that this is not the only bad decision he has made in life.

You would think someone with that much trucking experience, and life experience would know better.

Clean MVR is just on public roads, could possibly have horrendous record of ripping off doors, hitting poles, and tearing property up at shipper and receivers on private property.

Just because you have been doing something forever, doesn't make you an expert, professional, or even good at it

    stevep1977 and p608 Thank this.

Unbelievable that so many of you defend this practice, and blame those that have been victims of it. Not everyone was born and/or raised with your good sense and life experience. Some of theses companies wouldn't survive without a steady stream of foolish or desperate recruits that don't know any better or think they don't deserve to be treated any better. These billion dollar companies are run by educated, sophisticated people. Many of these recruits are their polar opposites. Quit blaming people who are victimized by those on high because they they can't read legalize, because they are naive, because they are desperate, because they didn't do their research on the TTR, .....

Dunno if they still do it, but when I started at CRE, on the last day they had the integrity interview.
You sat down alone in a room with their researcher, who was the former head of Utah Highway Patrol, and orally verified your background.
You also fessed up to have you ever smoked weed, etc..
I remember 3 guys got yanked on that final day for lieing.
