Hi y'all I'm new to the hotshot industry and have been reading as many posts in this forum as I can on a daily basis. I have found a lot of good advice and I'm learning as I go. The question I have is about authority. I am in the process of getting my own but have read a lot about how the insurance rate is crazy for new DOT numbers. My question is can you have your own authority but run under someone else's authority until mine ages a bit to get the better rates?

It wouldn't make sense to be paying for the insurance on your authority & not using it. You would just run under their authority. That is what insurance companies are doing now for new entrants to the market from their position it a great financial risk with freight claims but mainly bad injury accidents. All the best to you

You can not have active operating authority without insurance filings.

I just posted in another thread. My 1st quote as a “new venture” in Texas, $2200 down, $920 a month. Way better than a lot of other guys are saying, especially those in Florida.
