Are Indiana State Trooper’s allowed to pull you over to perform a DOT inspection if you weren’t breaking any other traffic laws?

Yes. Most road troopers are level 3 qualified ( walk around and paperwork)and can pull you over and do a road side inspection without you breaking any traffic laws.If they're not level 2 or 1 qualified they can call A qualified DOT inspector to perform those inspections. They can even have you follow them a certain distance to a fixed scale to weigh you or a safer location to perform a inspection .
Zeviander, Dino soar, Suspect Zero and 4 others Thank this. -
You can be inspected in the coops without an obvious-existing violation, so why not?
G13Tomcat Thanks this. -
There's a thread on here I think by home skillet about Ohio troopers out BAD today....and a few guys mention Indiana (since we are neighbors sorda I guess....) but YEP they do it here in Ohio, also.
Did you get boinked? Let us know. -
When the Motor Carrier Safety Assistance Program §350 was first enacted it was designed for inspections once stopped. Today because trucking has been considered a highly regulated industry most if not all that language has been removed from §350. I don't think it is right, but it happens everyday in the US.Oldironfan and G13Tomcat Thank this.

I did get pulled over by a Indiana State Trooper earlier today. It wasn’t a full DOT inspection, I assume possibly because we were on a busy State road. Checked my low/high headlights, four ways, turn signals, brake lights, reverse lights, windshield wipers and fluid, and had me fan down my air pressure to make sure the light and buzzer activated. (I drive a straight truck by the way.) Asked for my CDL license, registration, and bill of lading at the beginning obviously.
I wasn’t sure if they were able to pull you over strictly for a DOT inspection or not. It didn’t matter, I was just curious.
There were quite a few officers out today. I saw 3 or 4 Ohio officers pulling people over on 224 around Van Wert, Ohio and quite a few of Indiana officers as well. About 30 mins before I was pulled over for the inspection I had to go through the scales on Interstate 69 South bound (Indiana) and made it through ok and boom got nailed for a random inspection like I said about 30 mins later traveling west bound on state road 18.G13Tomcat Thanks this. -
Well at least you passed. Dang, I run the 224 up there all the time; I guess I'll be more careful tonight when I head out...thanks for the info~! Glad all is well tho.
Holiday week, they do this crap....and then there's another DOT blitz that starts on 7/15.... yay.otterinthewater and Oldironfan Thank this. -
Seems like everything is fair game. I saw a pack of black SUV's, I thank they were labeled Public Service Commission, swarm a contractor. Contractor was doing turn lanes and ditches.
They were going over all the trucks and paper work. That just seemed wrong but I was glad they were busy when I went by.G13Tomcat Thanks this. -
Didn't you learn this when you studied for your cdl?Trucking in Tennessee Thanks this.

I’ve seen Ohio pull into truck stops on 71 and hit drivers for inspections while they were parked . Not a fan...
