Not necessarily... I'm color blind with certain colors, but my red/green is fine. If you couldn't see any numbers on any of the cards, then you may have a problem.
clifhanger66 Thanks this. -
Don't give up just yet.Yes,there is a minimum standard. You must be able to distinguish the difference between red, amber and green.I know the standard test is simple but there are also more tests that can be done to narrow down if you meet the minimum standard. For guidance, you can go to the FMCSA website, under search, type in,391.41.Scroll down to eye sight and hit on medical advisory criteria. If your doctor is not equipped to give you the additional tests, see an eye care doctor. If your eye care doctor finds you fit then then have them contact your primary doctor with the results.

I dont think im color blind but i couldn't see the numbers behind the dots on the test . I guess i will check it out when i see my eye doctor. -
hey clif,
i couldnt see the numbers either, but as long as where you get your dot physical says you can distinguish red yellow and green, your fine I cant read the numbers in the all the circles on the dmv vision screen, but i take my dt long form with me everytime i go to the dmv.clifhanger66 Thanks this. -
I was also struggling with that same question the test you are refering to is called the Ishihara Test for Color Blindness. the truth is over half the population cannot pass that test. Here is what the regs say.
b)(10) Has distant visual acuity of at least 20/40 (Snellen) in each eye without corrective lenses or visual acuity separately corrected to 20/40 (Snellen) or better with corrective lenses, distant binocular acuity of at least 20/40 (Snellen) in both eyes with or without corrective lenses, field of vision of at least 70° in the horizontal meridian in each eye, and the ability to recognize the colors of traffic signals and devices showing standard red, green, and amber; The only two colors that are on the eyey chart are green and red. So if you can see them you are ok. Peace outclifhanger66 Thanks this. -
they dont use that test for d.o.t. as the regs do not read that way, as long as you can see red yellow and green you will be ok

My doc let me identify red, green, yellow and blue magic markers. I am definitely red/green color blind, but can identify all that is necessary for the med card.
clifhanger66 Thanks this.
