    Often motor carrier officers will use the speeding as justification to initiate a stop to conduct an inspection. Several states are like this, they need cause to initiate contact such as a noticable violation (light out, loose dunnage, visible flat tire, etc) and speeding is perfect for this reason.

    The officer purposely does not issue the citation, only notes it as a violation on the inspection report, because if the citation were to be dismissed in court then a DataQ could remove the inspection from the record. This way the inspection sticks and the driver has no recourse because they can't prove they were not speeding. Sucks but it happens daily.

    Where were you at? 62 in CA is normally in a somewhat safe zone. The fuel company I worked for governed their trucks at 62 and I can't remember anyone getting a ticket.
