Well i just got the low down from the Machanic. After tearing the front end all apart,my king pins are shot..:biggrin_25513::biggrin_25513:...After further investigation i have to have the holes ''bored'' out and shimmed. Not great news today, but my tires were getting chewed up.I will be paying 1,350.00 for the entire job and 3 axle alignment..:disgust:...:biggrin_25510:

My story started 10 months ago.I bought all new tires.Mount, dismount and balanced tires.I had new bearings and seals done too.At that point i thought i was a free man.Well,i was not a free man.One of two things have happened.

#1 being the shop did not do there ''homework'' on the king pins. This is hard to tell
#2 Shortly after the work was all done,my kings started to go.This is hard to say.But these NYC roads among other highways i run on,this is no surprise.

Needless to say i will have new steers, new kings, new seals, new bearings and new alignments. Not to mention he is going to make sure all springs and bushings are good.He said they look great.I got 1.4 million out of these kings.I may have screwed myself and went on the cheap 10 months ago.I feel maybe i should of had the kings replaced, even though at the time they were tight.Any thoughts on this king pin job. Thanks landstar8891

1350.00 is a pretty good deal if they are boring the axle pin holes. Locally here in NC they get 500.00 just to come out and bore. Sleeves are extra. King pin sets are about 350-400 here, so thats already almost 900.00 not counting labor for the rest and the alignment.

They don't go from good to bad that quick. If you'd jack the front up and check you could have done it yourself last year for the price of parts and saved your new tires.

if it's Eaton FA you can download pdf for maint., freeplay tolerances.

Don't forget to set toe when finished.

After the original kingpins they never seem to last as long. Whether its the quality of the part or poor mechanic doing the job we've always had bad luck after the originals go out.

It's the bushing that's brass. Original bushing is plastic. Need to be reamed for pin to fit. Then you can shim it how tight you want it. I could barely get grease to pump out of mine when I did 'em they were so tight.

Why not just go with Kaiser kingpins? No teaming necessary.

I like the no ream Kaiser kits too. The first one I did, I didn't think it'd last as long, but they do just fine. That's all I've been using for years and never had an issue.
