While that technically may be true, if you steer to avoid a crash and cause another you will be on the hook for the one you caused. Now, not steering to avoid a crash, even if you didn't cause the conditions that led to the crash, could still cause it to be preventable. BUT, in most cases, it's better to hold the line and try to stop as best you can than to just start evasive actions. Unless you are SURE you have an out (which you should be looking for anyway as a professional driver) the best course is usually to just hit the brakes, keep er straight, and hope for the best.
