Well....as I said...I never said he shouldn't get punished. Dumb moves/decisions/mistakes yield consequences, sometimes devastating ones. 45 years is a life sentence basically. I don't think all deaths are the same. The law he broke was an illegal U-turn....not murder. I don't like the idea of painting all deaths the same. I could see 10 or 15 years and a loss of his CDL. If you're truly talking about making highways safer, then you revoke his CDL, maybe even his class Ds. I'm not absolvong something like this at all, but locking a man up for that long aint going to stop that from happening again. It doesn’t go to the root of the problem....improper CDL training. Until that gets addressed, and you keep churning out drivers that have barely been in a truck 2 months at best, these accidents will keep on happening. People get into these trucks with a 4 wheeler mentality and that's why we keep seeing these trucking faux pas.

It's impossible to get me to feel any sympathy for those dudes being charged. No, I don't think it's unfair that their own video exposes them killing 3 people and then acting casual about it.
tscottme Thanks this. -
What if….severe punishments were a deterrent to others who want to come here illegally and live in a truck to make money? Wouldn’t that make our roads safer too? You know, sort of like the countries who amputate a hand for shoplifting. I’d bet they have fewer instance of shoplifting than say California where as long as it’s less than $900 or whatever it’s fine.
tscottme, LOTSO and Walk Among Us Thank this. -
I asked why you reserved especially harsh treatment for the hypothetical truck driver crashing into a vehicle parked on the shoulder, by your own words, but not for the U-turn driver that killed 3 people. Please explain how one driver that didn't intend to injure/kill anyone is different from another driver that didn't intend to injure/kill anyone.
I don't know why you insert some comment about "all lives are the same" as if anyone is arguing for or against that. It seems more like an attempt to change the subject or complicate the issue enough to NOT ANSWER THE QUESTION. 2 drivers with similar motivationss and intentions do something and you announce you support harsh treatment for 1 but not the other. Please explain. No need for a summary of argument or changing the subject.
It's ironic to complain about improper CDL training AND let's keep lighter punishment for an outrageous reckless act that killed 3 people. Maybe we should not punish the U-turn driver because he was only doing the best he could with inadequate training? The outcome of being easy with horrible behavior is MORE HORRIBLE BEHAVIOR. Do you not understand that? Do you think disagreeing with the certain outcome of more horrible behavior prevents more horrible behavior? Maybe if people took responsibility for their actions and their opinions we wouldn't have these situations. -
It definitely was stupid. I agree he made the turn on purpose though. Definitely didn't mean to kill those folks. He will and should pay for that error in judgment. I think its excessive but whatever. I bet in retrospect he would bave just paid that toll!!!
