Sure I ran with a TV and sounds but I also made #### sure my book was 100% correct. There's no law that says I have to sleeep when required. If I got a ticket and I had all my ducks lined up then I'd go to court. It is not the right way to fix a problem but there sure is a problem no matter how you look at it. There's idiots that have no clue when to shut down and I don't want them running into me.

I bet you would be amazed how much "the industry" representatives propose and support the regulations. I know for a fact that "industry" has introduced and supported changes to some of the out of service criteria. When I first heard of different OOS criteria changing, I asked who wanted that. I would never in a million years believe industry would want to changes to the OOS criteria and make it tougher.

i think every 1 of u is looking at this the wrong way. the problem is only partialy the fault of the LEO and the regulations they have been told to enforce. i believe the biggest problem lies with our employers and the crooked scheme that has been concocted(spelling sux) to only pay for part of the work we actually do! this pay per mile garbage is the reason must of us stretch the truth at some time or another. we all know how to stretch time. be honest, do u always log that 3 hr live load/unload? does every toll ticket, fuel ticket and qualcomm time match ur logbook perfectly? do u REALLY log everything as it happens? is ur logbook always up to date with ur last change of duty status? i'll bet not always. as long as we are paid by the mile, and not a more fair method, there are going to be problems with fatigued drivers. LEO's know this, companies profit from this and drivers will continue to push themselves as long as there is a financial incentive to break the law and a low risk of getting caught.

Well I think you need to look at it from a more sarcastic and pessimistic view.
Its not the pay per mile system that is place that is the problem. Many drivers get paid for other various times they don't drive, such as loading...etc. Many don't.

Many drivers LOG legally. Many don't.

The fact is that no matter what the system is, people will cheat and lie in order to get more money, because money is what people are after. If you pay per mile, well people are going to cheat and lie in order to get as many miles under their belts.
However if you pay by the hour, well then people will still cheat by working longer hours than normal, taking longer to: do something, drive, load / unload...etc. I mean you can't tell me you are going to work fast if you are getting paid 15 bucks an hour or whatever to load / unload.

I personally get paid salary. I get paid to simply do my job. My pay is set up based on experience, my route and deliveries...etc. My goal is to get home as safely and yet as quickly as possible.

I think that pay per mile is going to be the best way to do it, until there is another way out there that will not let a company get ripped off by a driver.

Either way, how did your comment tie into the checklist by the MN DOT? That is what this thread is about....not sure how trucker pay by the mile has anything to do with that.

After looking at that JOKE of a list again, printed it out, checked the boxes I thought would be my average day's condition on a good run, in legal form, in an OTR truck that I'd be living in, and with nothing really wrong with me but say, a headache.
Trailer dirty - it's called drop and hook, stupid.
    Trailer interior dirty- see above
TV in berth - you want it on the dash?
Reading material- yeah, some of us can read.
Urine bottle present - just where do you want THAT little time-saver?
Empty soda/caffeine drink cans - we're just supposed to LOOK at them to be alert?
    Cell Phone - uh...what?
Active dreams - what is an INactive dream?
Use of OTC meds - cops giving me headaches.
Use of 'Script meds - uh, yeah, that's how I'm allowed to drive. Wanna see me without?
Job/home related stress - know anyone without it?
Use of Caffeine or Stimulants - I like to be alert for my longer runs. Duh.
Money concerns - Oh, please. You make more than I do.
Physical movements / rubbing head, face, eyes. - done that all my life. Get over it.
I got 14 demerits for a normal run. I guess you should shoot me now, as I'm a definable road hazard.

Let me ask you this, I take it that you think this is a bull schnit survey also, but if it was to become a law in your state would you uphold it then or trun a blind eye to it?

No, I don't want any part of it. But after talking to some folks I know, I don't think "we" will have to worry with it. For those going to MN, I personally, would not take the survey. Hey, I'll BS with the best of them when I stop a driver. But there is no way I could ever hold that ridiculous survey over someones head. Hell, I got half of that stuff in my patrol car, put me out of service for 10 hours.
