    If your log does not have the daily chart like mine does... Just do that on a pad of paper. as you add a new day to the bottom, all the other days move up!

    The top day falls off the top of the stack and smashes to the ground in little pieces. so tiny that the hours can't be counted.. hehehehehee (Just trying to be funny, not insulting)

    that is how the hours from the oldest day drop off.

    another key is if that top number is really small, like a 2, and you drive 11 hours today, then that takes a huge chunk away from your 70 hours. that is something you want to watch when managing your time.

    When you get hired and run through orientation someone should cover HOS. If you still dont understand things let them know. They should spend some time with teaching you up front. We have 3 people at our company that will help drivers with HOS questions if drivers ask, and we do remedial training for drivers that continue to have violations. Ask drivers, ask safety and compliance, I don't care really just ask someone that you trust and is willing to help you. Best of luck to anyone with HOS issues.

    Maybe I'm falling in the trap as others put it,,,,I'm making this log book stuff harder than it really is...
    Hopefully I'll get it all down-pat soon, and it will just be a normal pain in the butt to do.

    Sometimes the best people to ask for help are the ones that work at scale houses(DOT). A lot of drivers will frown at the thought, but they are the ones that will write you a ticket if it's wrong, so they are the ideal people to show you how to do it correctly. I have asked a few different ones about issues i was not sure of and they were all more then happy to help out.

    easiest way i think to explain this is
    7 days 5.5, 6.5, 7.75, 9.0, 10.75, 11.0, 5.5 = 56 hrs
    leaving you with 14 hrs - the hours you worked today.. in this case 6.5

    on the 8th day the 5.5 (first day) rolls over at midnight.
    equation 14 - 6.5 = 7.5 + 5.5 = 13 hrs in which you can legally work the following day

    so your 7 day would now look like 6.5,7.75, 9.0, 10.75, 11.0, 5.5, 6.5

    Hi guys,
    Been searchin all over the FMCSA site, about "time zones" recording in log books...
    Can not find any mention of the issue....
    So my question is: How are you suppose to deal with "time zone changes" in the log book, and recording in the log book to stay in compliance?
    Or is it a non-issue, just keep using your original "home" time zone?

    It does say in there that you log the time zone the place you are dispatched from or something like that is where your time is. If you are based from NYC and delivering in LA then you stay on the ETZ (Eastern Time Zone.) Stay on your "home" time. see FMCSA § 395.8 (f)( 8 ) Driver's record of duty status.

    It doesn't matter what time zone you deliver to and are based in you just deliver at what ever time the dispatch is for but you log it for your home time zone. Not hard at all. Just because you cross a time zone the only thing you need to worry about is being at the appointment on time! THEIR TIME! You'll just log it on your time!

    Most cell phones will change to the time zone as you cross the line. Windows on your laptop will let you have a second clock that you can set for another time zone which I did just for kicks as I can add or subtract up to 3 numbers without the calculator!! Yes AZ and a part of IN are stupid with their not changing with the rest of the nation when doing the time change but asking someone if in doubt isn't something to be ashamed of if it means getting to an appointment on time!

    Hello to all,
    I have worked for company for many years that produces music concerts.
    I will be for the first time, doing some driving for them, in a tractor/trailer combo that they rent/lease, thru Penske.
    I will be hauling some concert related materials, that they own, to Knoxville,Tn. from the Chicago area. And return the same materials after the concert is over to where I loaded it at, in Chgo. area.
    As far as I know,, this doesnt have or they dont really give me a "bill of layding" or manifest...
    In my log book,,, says,,,"B/L or manifest No." or "shipper and commodity"...
    Am I safe to assume, I can show the companys name, and describe the materials, in the "shipper and commodity" section of the log...meaning , I dont have any paperwork for the load?
    Any help soon would be great!!
    By the way NEWS FLASH Ossama bin Ladin is DEAD,,,,news flash as I'm typing....
