So I keep hearing about drivers saying we haven't had a raise in 30 years. I'm not sure whether that's true or not, since I've only been driving a bit short of a decade, but from what I've seen, pay hasn't really gone up much if at all. Everything else has gone up, gas, food, rent, bills, etc. Inflation causes this but will wages ever catch up?
Or will I be driving in the year 2030 still making only .40 cents a mile, but gas will be $15 a gallon, a new car will be $100,000 and a gallon of milk will be $20, a loaf of bread being $15? All this WILL happen due to inflation, but will we still be making the same pay? If so I might just want to start looking for another career path over the next few years. I'm not even 30 years old yet and I don't know if I can go 30 more years without the trucking industry seeing a cost of living raise.
Am I worrying too much?
What do you guys think?

Your concerns are legitimate. Truck driving wages have stagnated badly for decades.
Trucking is a very low paying industry. For all the hours away from home, and hardships, it really isn't worth it.
Trucking is also rated the 9th most dangerous occupation in the US.
If you are young, go to school and learn a better paying trade. -
It won't get better . More regulations and higher fuel and equipment expenses keep carrier profits down . The one expense they can keep low is driver pay . As long as they can find drivers willing to accept the current rates they won't increase them.
The Admiral and Gizmo_Man Thank this. -
One needs to be concerned about one's driving record first, then worry about pay later. As long as one's driving record stinks, one will accept getting paid what one deserves.
-
And the flip side of that coin is that as long as the industry doesn't worry about driver pay, it will get what it deserves.

Best regardsGizmo_Man and The Admiral Thank this. -
Checked my MVR the other day, clean as a whistle, well except for that silly ticket I have from 4.5 years ago.
But I'm glad you have it out for me so badly that you can troll every thread that I make.
get a life.
edit: response was for gizmo man. Couldn't quote him since he's on ignore, but I unfortunately had to read his post through your quote. -
True that. the companies will will never worry as long as the CDL Mills are producing crash-test dummies
Too bad I am on your ignore list. Must be because I spoke the truth, and you couldn't handle it. Typical of some here, that only want to hear what they want to hear, and nothing else.
I got a life too, a clean one, free of accidents where I blame someone else. -
Only problem is, I have built a lifestyle around my level of income over the last few years, and I can't afford to stop working and goto college.
Plus there's never really been anything else I'm interested in.
So I'm kinda stuck between doing this forever, or going to school and working part time for minimum wage, and losing my house.
Or if I get lucky I could find a job that pays $800 a week without any school or training (yeah right). -
I got me a driving job where I log less than 40 hours each week. Heck, I usually only log about 35/38 hours, and I make "just over" $1,000.
I got lucky when I found this job, but then again, I didn't have any accidents/tickets, etc, etc.
So that kind of job is out there, well, for some of us at least. -
These days you can get a college degree online. It may take a little longer but you can keep driving while you do it.
