Hi can anyone recommend a good company big or small that would hire me, I have 7 total years OTR but I have been out of driving for the last three years which is a deal breaker for most, I'm currently driving for a small company and have 3 months currently but they don't take care of their drivers and I'm looking for something better. I have pulled refeer and drybox as well as flatbed but don't want to go back to flat, I have a current TWIC and DOT physical and can drive any transmission out there. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

I've heard that Abilene has a refresher deal for guys in your situation.
Oxbow Thanks this. -
Where is your location? That will be a determining factor.
-
Also, will your current gig be easily variable?
-
Another 3 months and you won’t have to worry about being a circus clown anywhere else again.

Monroe Louisiana is my home, yes my experience is variable. I know 3 more months will put me in a good position I just can't stand having to work for these guys any longer than I have too. Just for example they only take loads that bring us back to within a 100 miles of the terminal because they have dedicated loads out. If they can't find any they will deadhead you all the way home and you don't get a cent for it. I deadheaded all the way from Columbus Oh over 800 miles and didn't get paid for it, they pay every two weeks and wont give us any advances on the road. They just don't care. Plus they have found some way around the ELD requirement and run us like dogs.

Monroe, Louisiana?....
Try KLLM:

Becuz of your driving gap -- you will likely have to do the 9-day refresher they mention in the above link.
But after that -- you will likely have a decent gig.
After that refresher -- stay with them for AT LEAST ONE YEAR.
That track record should then open many other doors for you, later on.

I’m not going to try to talk you out of quitting, because your mind is already made up. I would like some clarification and perhaps you can figure out a better negotiation plan for the next gig:
Are you paid percentage? The way you describe things, the dedicated freight has to pay quite well. If that were the case, deadheading wouldn’t bother me because load board rates are so crappy and a massive waste of time. As an owner op, I would bounce back easily if my dedication freight paid enough for round trip and a profit margin. If you are paid mileage and no deadhead pay, that’s straight up robbery. I would not bounce.
“Found some way around the ELD.” If you sign off at the end of your day and VERIFY, they can go into the system and make changes to your available HOS? Can you prove this? This is LEVERAGE for a criminal mind. Can you smell what the Rock is cookin?
There’s no such thing as an advance to an owner op. -
No paid mileage, and most of our trucks are well above the year 2000 which i thought must have ELD but only a few do the rest of us are on paper logs, and get this we have to buy our own with no reimbursement given.
