I've been charged 250.00, more than once, from my check because I'm a Solo driver. I was never told about anything like this when I hired on. Has anyone else ever experienced anything like this?!! I think this is a total scam and don't know what to do about it. I've contacted payroll with no explanation or resolution...Ticked Off!!!

Let us know the employer's name, where he's from, what he hauls, and where he runs.
The more information you give us the better we're able to help you.
Your information might keep other drivers from making the mistake of going to work there.

It's not unheard of. If you're working for a 1099 company, particularly in the Chicago area, they may be deducting money for an "escrow" account. Usually they do it over a period of 10 weeks. They have you sign a contract that states that. These companies claim that you can get that money back when or if you quit, but drivers never do.

Also if you work for one of these companies, and you caused some sort of damage from their vantage point, they will charge you until its paid off. I'm not saying that you are working for one of these companies, I don't know for sure. I'm speculating that you aren't working for a reputable company. I think you should follow the other guys' advice and quit because it's gonna be too much of an uphill battle to reclaim that money.

Once I was buying a used car from a dealer. We agreed on a price for the car, but when I sat down to sign the contract, there was a $250 processing fee and a $1500 delivery fee. I asked about the fees and they told me what they were for. I got up and walked out.

I would really like to see the operating contract. You new guys, before you fill out your paperwork, take a picture of it. It should list everything….should.

Are you normally a team driver and working sometimes as a solo? If you are always a solo driver why aren't you charged the $250 every pay period.

Read through all of the paperwork you signed when you got hired. What counts is what is printed on the paperwork, not what you remember them talking about. Need a lot more details.

You're saying that the people who make out the pay settlements can't explain why they're deducting money? If so, that's straight up stealing. Why do they even bother showing you the deduction? They could just as easily short you money without saying anything. I'm a little confused here...
