Your welcome, CATfan( new handle?) Can't go wrong with a K-Whopper, although, I've had my best luck in dump trucks with Mack. They rarely break, but expensive when they do.(and they will break)K-W is a darn good truck, always have been, but remember, dump trucking is about as hard on a truck as you're going to get. Be advised, while Cat motors are the best, they too are very expensive to repair. I've always had Cummins motors, and put hundreds of thousands of miles on them. I drove a truck with a new style Detroit and it had like 900K on it, and was never opened up. Also, if you're going to be hauling broken concrete, I'd make sure you have a liner(thin plastic ones work ok) in the box, as I've seen jagged concrete put holes in the floor and sides. Good luck
Yeah the admins on this Forum asked me to change it lol, Yeah this ol KW has a big cam cummins in it, I have been looking at a couple of Mack's as well, I just found this KW and it is like 10 minutes from me, I love the power of a CAT but I don't really want one in my first dump truck, I know Cummins and Detroit's are cheaper to repair, And get better fuel mileage. This dump trucking isn't going to be long term for me, Just until I can get my unrestricted CDL's and run over the road. After I can get my unrestricted license my dad will be taking over the dump trucking, Or I might possibly get a friend of mine to run it, This KW I found is an '87 I believe, W900b, Big cam cummins, Jake brake, 9 speed and 16ft bed with electric tarp. The guy said everything on it works, And that's all that I know about it as of right now. He said that it's ready to go to work. I'm going to call the guy in a few days and go check it out, He's asking $6,000 OBO and it's a pretty good looking ol truck. I expect to have to do some work to it, My dad is very good at the mechanical aspect, So he can do all of the work for me and he said he could refloor the bed if it needed it. Would you say that it would be worth looking at? I'll keep that in mind about the liner!

Hey CATfan, absolutely, sounds good. Make sure you have work lined up before actually getting the truck, and try to get records of maintenance. Cummins, for me, usually go 300K before starting to get a little leaky, get a coolant sample, if you can. 6K is not a lot of money to get started, the other nice thing about dump work, when(not if) it breaks, you are close to home. I've heard of some real nightmares of O/O's having to get their trucks fixed on the road. Good luck
CATfan Thanks this. -
