They say e logs will make the roads safer. They say mandating speed limiters will make the roads safer. They say adaptive cruise and stability control will make the roads safer. So, would someone please explain to me how any of that equipment will help remove this guy's head from his butt? Can someone please explain how any of that equipment will make this guy smarter than the steering wheel he's holding?

That technology won't make the drivers smarter; it compensates for lack of intelligence. Maybe that's an example of artificial intelligence.
rank, TripleSix and Straight Stacks Thank this. -
Driver why are you trying to pass in the right lane. haha.
Straight Stacks Thanks this. -
The powers that be can't seem to see that.
I'm empty, have time to kill, so I've been running about 67 all day. I'm giving the fleet drivers a chance to tell their buddies "I passed a cowtruck today!" -
All that "tech" you mentioned does is enable the megascum to flood even more "new breed" morons to overrun this profession, thereby giving the general public even more of a reason to ##### and moan about "drivers" out here.
Or something.Long FLD and tech10171968 Thank this. -
I can't explain it, but someone in Washington can.Long FLD Thanks this.

Despite being considered an "unskilled" job, driving a semi actually requires a certain level of skill in reality. All of us here already know this, and I think the companies know that, too. My take on it is that e-logs, automatic transmissions, GPS and all this other stuff is being introduced to make trucking "brain-dead" simple enough that the companies can literally just hire any dummy off the street to do the job. This lowers the barrier for entry and justifies paying craptastic, entry-level wages since now the job is "stupid-simple" to perform.
I really think that's the end game here; make the job worth next to nothing by obsoleting the need for drivers with actual skills who might command higher wages (at least, higher than the company's willing to pay).Hammer166, ShooterK2, Long FLD and 1 other person Thank this. -

Spot on hand. Couldn't agree with you more. That's why (IMO) it's important to get on with a good company (whether O/O leasing on, or the right "Mom and Pop" outfit) and haul the loads for the shippers that actually need/appreciate reliability and superior service. -
I thought that was what construction zones were for.25(2)+2, Long FLD and tech10171968 Thank this.

Oh boy....
Sun's going down (doesn't look like Kentucky). Tailights are covered. No beacon lights on the trailer. Improperly flagged. Over 11ft wide and he's centering the truck instead of hugging the shoulder.
Fail.Al. Roper, scottied67 and ShooterK2 Thank this.
