Because, they would have told me to tear it up. They contacted me on my 10 hour break to give me the load, so there was no way to do a pretrip.

Did even better.
Turned down the load.
Told them to get load to the yard or authorize me to drive truck back empty because I was leaving.
Got a load to the yard. Truck emptied by 6:30 pm that night.volvodriver01 and THBatMan8 Thank this. -
What is sad is that many carriers cannot plan loads well, and the sitting all day screwing up the normal sleep routine and then running all night stuff goes on. Fortunately, I got out of that type of stuff almost a decade ago. I usually have the next load planned out before I begin to take off with the current one. Sometimes have most of the week planned out and loads arranged. With all the technology today, it is surprising that carriers still do it the way they did 30 years ago.
I guess that is why E-logs haven't been a real issue with me. I have been on E-logs for almost a year. Hasn't hurt revenue in any way and I am still by the house a couple of times a week and off on the weekends. And no.... I am NOT on a dedicated route. I do limit my hauls to mostly midwest.ECU51 Thanks this. -
well e- logs gonna fun with me, i like too run around the clock , if i can, take my 10 hour break and go again too my next ten break, just the way i lern too drive, night thru day dosnt bother me.

Why speed thru town to find a place to park? Just go to OFF DUTY DRIVING and take your time. It isn't like you are trying to get on down the road and cutting the distance between the shipper and receiver. If I am just looking for a place to park, I start the break by going off duty, then use off duty driving to find a safe place to park. -
Im on e logs now. Big adjustment period. Im used to it by now but by no means does it make anyone a safe driver it just makes you a more regulated driver, you still retain all of your normal driving habits. its all smoke and mirrors under the guise of safety. E logs or no logs at all you are still the same driver.

E logs are good for large carriers that are so large they can have upwards of a hundred trucks in every state in the continental US at any given time. Eliminates degrees of separation and allows load planners and dispatchers to match freight with trucks in short order. Also, if someone runs into a problem, odds are there is a truck within reasonable distance that either has a load the driver having a problem can work with, or has no load at all.
The problems start when you have a company that only has a hundred or so trucks. If a driver runs into a problem, he's stuck with the load he has. Yes, customer service comes into play and loads can be rescheduled etc. but it doesn't do much good for the customer waiting on the load. Basically, its a bargaining tool for the large carriers to use. Essentially, one truck getting delayed becomes a non issue, as far as the customer is concerned, because a nearby truck can take over the load. So its a good thing for the large carriers but not so good for the small.
It should be noted that some carriers who have e logs for their company trucks expect their owner operators (who run paper logs) to make up the difference when a company truck can't get a job done. -
