At what sustained temperature is the maximum, before damage?

some of that depends on the internals of your motor but i wouldn't want to sustain more than 1000-1100 for very long.

And I would keep in mind the accuracy of your gauge as well.

I usually keep an eye on the oil & water temps as well. I start letting her breath @ 900. Never really wanted to test that theory out lol.

The hottest I can get mine to is 925, and it has to be 90+ outside to do that, I know that at that temperature it is fine, stock it ran hotter. I was just curious at what point/temperature you could start to melt things down.

Yes and keep in mind what he's going to be reading is post turbo. Not the temp at the manifold. And there are so many variables that go into post turbo EGT's its hard to say what his actual manifold temp is. I've heard anywhere from 200-400 degree difference. Is tack on 200-400 degrees to what the gauge is reading.

Why are none of them in the manifold? that's what we do on all of the pickups.

Yup, just drill a small hole and screw it in. My old IDI has seen as high as 1200*. I really need to get my intercooler installed.
