I heard ELD's will be required soon. The broker I have leased my truck to started requiring ELD's on new leasee's last fall. I "tested" the Tablet solution they are using which is from JJ Keller. It had so many errors and flaws that I removed it the next day. Wanting to improve on the accuracy of my paper logs, I purchased a ELD from a T/A Truckstop. A Rand McNally TND760. I'm very pleased with it. Infact, on my last trip to California I got a level I and passed with flying colors with my TND-760. I didn't like that I had to make a 3 year contract. But 1 added feature I love is the ability to pull codes with it from the ECM with plain text descriptions. I haven't had in log violations from the internal department and I love being able to tell the Service Manager exactly what is going on with my truck in terms of engine codes and lamps. Unfortunately I learned that my broker will only accept the JJ Keller tablet solution or the Omnitracs MCP-50. I have 12 months to comply or find a new broker. Anybody else thinking along these lines? Been there done that. Can the broker really refuse my ELD?

The only requirement should be that your ELD complies with all the regulations. Maybe he's getting a kickback from those companies lol. I'd be looking for a new broker.

Your leased on to carrier (mercer) not a broker. You dont have to obey any broker, you just dont move their freight.
You do have to obey your carrier as its their business and their rules.mhyn Thanks this. -
XRS is awesome. HOS, codes, fuel tax reporting, fault codes, GPS traffic maps, etc. Month to month fee, that's it.
I have 10 of them. -
Just watched the video tour, interesting.

Another cool thing is it can run on any Android device with 3g/4g, like your phone or a 3g/4g tablet.
