For my operation, I've thought an electric apu would work. I don't do reset on the road, and I sleep at night. I have big tanks and took boxes, so I have no room on the frame for the apu. I have a toolbox/step where I could put 4 batteries.
So I research to find the ones that are on the market, and I realize that many if them have gone belly up! Climacab, Go daddy says the domain is available, and the manufacturer has closed shop.
My thoughts are to get a gas powered generator, and get a portable a/c. Making a window vent should be easy enough, and it solves another problem, HVAC in the sleeper doesn't work.
All in, should be $600-800.
Electric APUs?

Crude Truckin' Thanks this. -
Yeah, Parksmart is a factory installed system in Cascadia, but I forgot about the nite system, which is Bergstrom's after market model.
Thanks, I will look into the Nite system. -

If your going to go the portable A/C route consider one of the stand up kinds with a flexible duct to exhaust the heat.
That said, if you get one of those I would HIGHLY recommend one of the dual hose versions. 1 hose brings in outside air to cool the unit, the other blows out the now hot air. All that in/out is isolated from the "room" in its own circuit.
The single hose units only blow out the hot air. That discharged air needs to be replaced (unless your a martian and can live in a vacuum) so it will mean you have to leave a window cracked slightly (1/8" or so) so outside (hot/humid) air can replace the air being dumped outside. This makes the unit much less efficient and you might not achieve the level of coolness you desire. The twin hose version solved that problem.
The 2 hoses are easy to make a window adapter for (kind of like that deal for the truck stop provided a/c thing (idle air?) That never really worked. Rol your window down, put your "adapter panel" in the gap, close the window on it.
I helped a guy set this system up in a KW. It now freezes him out...
About the electric APUs; If I recall correctly, most of them required 6-8 batteries and had a relatively low output BTU rating so for anything medium size or larger sleeper size wise they didn't work that well. Also battery maintenance can be an issue.
I understand some of the factory installed systems seem to do pretty well though..
Good luck and when your done post up some pictures!HopeOverMope Thanks this. -
Ive been in -10 weather and my heater run me out of my clothes, covers and truck.....it was a sight.....hahahaha

It was 93 here today.. I don't know where you could be that it's -10 now but the only advice I have for you is... HEAD DUE SOUTH...
-10....??? My thermometer does not even have the ability (OR NEED) to go anywhere even sort of close to crazy numbers like that... ESPECIALLY IN MAY...
Are you really serious? Today? -10?
I must be a wimp... LOLFriday and BigTennOTR Thank this.
