Warning! Objects in windshield may be closer than they appear. And look at that gap between the cab and trailer. Elon Musk would be jealous.

We need a double thank or thumbs up on here!!!driverdriver, tinytim and HotH2o Thank this.

because the HOS for the most part dictate you are on duty 14 hours. you can't take a nap while traffic dies down,or if you just need a nap - that never happens right?- so these outlaws that the eld cheerleaders say brought this on,which just flies in the face of how this law came to be,are the guys that now take a nap and don't log it,the horrors! eld will put that to an end.
drowsy driving is the biggest danger out here, and the HOS are actually written to promote it,and the ELD ensures compliance to it.
thats how. pretty simple really.ShooterK2, Bean Jr., LoJackDatHo and 2 others Thank this. -
It is king of silly, blaming a electronic gizmo on recording hours that are set up as unsafe from the very first. Do we do the same to our government, say you must have a certain goal, but you must do it in a specific time frame, and if you do not you get a huge fine and points against you? The problem is the shippers and receivers holding drivers hostage while forcing them to pay to get unloaded and providing no parking for when they run way over on time.
-
I agree the HOS need more flexibility but anyone who uses it as an excuse to be unsafe would find a reason regardless.
-
NO! How many times, have I heard this? ELDs are to be understood as HOS. We, paper loggers, have been able not to worry about HOS too much, We know better than HOS. We sleep when we want to and run as far as we deem appropriate. Now, this Werner had to follow the HOS as he has been leashed to their ELOGS and who knows...maybe otherwise, could have afforded himself a 3.5 hour nap in the middle of a day to avoid this accident.ShooterK2, LoJackDatHo and Oxbow Thank this.

isn't a law that forces a guy to remain on duty when he would choose to take a 2 hour nap if he could, doing just that?
hello??? is the light on yet??? -
Then it is time for ALL OF US to start being responsible for our own actions, stop worrying about what others are doing and take care of our own safety .tinytim and KANSAS TRANSIT Thank this.

That's a cop out, the driver of that truck is the captain of that ship, if you can't safely drive because you are tired then it is your DUTY as a PRO to pull over and park, and I don't give a #### about what a dispatcher or dock manager had to say about it. Believe me if it comes down to it there isn't one owner of one company that would rather wreck a truck and injure or kill someone over getting a load there on time.
Now with that said, if you are CONSTANTLY late because you simply can't put in a full day without a nap, then maybe you should be working a shorter schedule somewhere.
And BTW, there is NO LAW that I am aware of that forces anyone to stay ON DUTY! -
And for that no ELOGS nor HOS are needed!LoJackDatHo, KANSAS TRANSIT and tinytim Thank this.
