Call and ask about that. Sometimes they may want a notorized letter from family member or friend that you did odd jobs for cash, such as landscaping, painting houses, or what ever you were doing or want to say you were doing, etc.
Many drivers on here started out the same way and are now trucking across America.
Where is your location; state and nearest city? -
Before I stepped into trucking I ran my own brick and mortar type retail store. Never got a 1099 or w2. I gave those out to other people.
When they ask for my employment history I let them know I was self employed, list me as the boss and my cell as the contact number.
If they can't muster the mental fortitude to think their way around that little blip, I would recommend looking for a different carrier/training company. Plenty of others are out there.
Let @Chinatown know where you want your home base to be. He is good getting folks pointed at companies. -
Show them your tax forms .. if you’ve never filed income taxes before it will be tough to get people to take a chance knowing you’ll be in tax trouble one day

It would be a great side gig for a recruiter (of questionable morals) to send in the names and socials of people with no work history in exchange for a percentage of the owed taxes.
-
If you work for a small company where you can sit down and talk to the owner you probably won't have to provide proof that you were self employed.

If you cannot prove with tax returns and so on (Or really special, have none at all...) someone is going to totally blow the whistle on you to IRS rather than get burned or ensared in a continuing non payment tax difficulties. Who informs on you to IRS generally gets 10% if not more of the total proceeds recovered from you in one nice check after it's all over.
You have to list what you did with every month going back 7 years and 10 years for others.
If all you did was spent a half day selling lemonade for a grand income of .45 cents you put that in there too. -
Chinatown Thanks this.
