Of course this is the number of hours an engine has been run.
What is considered low or high for the year of the truck and mileage ?
This pic is from my 2016 Freightliner M2 106 with 159,xxx miles on it.

That's definitely not total engine hours.
singlescrewshaker, SmallPackage and SilverBulletBand Thank this. -

Dividing miles by hours will show the truck's average speed over its lifetime. 159,000 ÷ 934 = 170 MPH average.

Hours since last oil change ? It was last changed in January this year.D.Tibbitt Thanks this. -

Seriously, I believe it's hours since the last oil change. As I indicated earlier, last oil change was done in January this year.
We work (49) hours per week, So say it's been about (24) weeks since the last oil change....
49 hrs x 24 weeks = 1176 Possible engine hours running. Considering the truck does not run the full amount of hours we are open. It's totally plausible that this is Hours run since the last oil change.
Next question.... What's the recommended range for engine hours run between oil changes. Engine is a 8.3 Cummins. -
Push the button on the display a couple times and the actual engine hrs will show. It will not stay on. It defaults back to miles. That is the way it worked in our ‘03.
