Anything can happen my friend, ANYTHING!!. but you stated it passed Dyno ok? if the Blow by wasnt excessive, runs good, should last a few more years. I've seen 1.2-1.3 million out of a detroit, and it looks like my old truck with a CAT C-15 is going to get there as well, but like I said Anything can happen. If the Rod and main bearings havent been changed, I would recommend it.

I dropped a valve 2 years ago. $15k for a rebuild. I was, and still am making payments on the truck, so I called up my loan officer and added it to my existing truck loan.

Crotts is right, anything can happen. We bought a truck with a Detroit 4 years ago, and at 923,000 it came apart and knocked a hole in the block under the starter the diameter of a pop can. I don't know exactly what happened, the dealer that replaced the engine didn't do much of a post-mortem on the old one. Something involving a rod I assume, either came apart at the rod cap, or a wrist pin failure. But it was just fine in the power and mileage department, not much difference between it and the new engine. There was no warning either, running empty with the cruise set at 60 when it happened.

Sorry to scare you, but our next one we bought, we had the pan pulled, and the bottom end checked over. Don't know if it would have prevented the first one, but it sure can't hurt to have a look at it. Any of them can come apart, though its rare, I just happened to get the one that did.

TA? Is that the lien holder? Truck Dealer? I know you can't be talking about Travel Centers of America.

I forgot to mention that my truck is going to be bank-owned for another 8-10 months. It passed the compression test and all that when I bought it just fine. My concern is if the life of the truck does not outlast the life of the loan. Is there any action I could take to save the truck?

I have perfect credit but my FICO score is really low due to only having 3 years verifiable credit on my report and some inaccuracies. If you pulled my report, it would look spotless. I was approved for the truck loan on that credit with only 20% down. My credit has only gotten better since getting the truck.

Speaking of which... I contacted Transport Funding (my financier) and I told them that the loan does not appear on my credit report. They said that it will only appear on another "transportation" credit report, not the "consumer" credit report. I pointed out that some of my business loans have appeared on the only credit report that I have ever heard of, and they said it is different for truck financing. Is this true? I asked some friends that own businesses and they said that seems off. They checked my "consumer" credit report to see if I was credit worthy, why would the loan not be reported? I think it is because it costs them money to report it and they are just giving me an excuse. Either way, you can be sure that if I lapse on the payments, the loan would suddenly appear on my credit.

Thanks for all the great info, FYDA. I would like to take the truck to your dealership if that is actually the case. I'm sure I will do some bargain hunting, but in the end I want someone that will give me a good-as-new engine...not something that runs for another 500k miles.

Do you have a mileage warranty? Does any shop have a warranty? What happens if it has problems around the 300k mile mark? I would be upset if it did not last as long as a new truck.

I'm going to ask my financier if that will work for them if things go awry. Can anyone think of a reason why they would not?
