Attached is a sketch of the current entryway to our place. Once you get in there is gobs of room to turn around but the drive in was not designed with trucks in mind. There is a dang telephone pole along with a ground mounted transformer for the electricity, and a telephone junction box right in the way. Definitely not going to be easy moving all this stuff and trying to avoid it if I can.

The existing concrete driveway is 12' wide. Do you think if I widened it 3.5' on each side for a total width of 19' from where the telephone pole is back to the gate and then from the telephone pole area out towards the road made the wings about 10' wider on each side trucks would be able to get in and out without too much struggle?

There are too many variables to be able to give a solid answer. A Volvo will generally turn tighter than a Pete. And day cabs even tighter. Bob is a better driver than Jim. A 48 foot box will track better than a 48 flat.

I'd like to think it would be doable. Lord knows I've backed into some pretty tight docks and made it back out. And parked at some pretty small truck stops. But I'll GOAL 30 times if necessary (even making tight right hand turns where I can't see an obstacle I might hit). Lot of drivers won't.

I hear you on that. I know there are a lot of variables.

We are planning on purchasing a Pete with a 40-48' step deck and will be coming and going out this gate fairly regularly. We also have a few thousand yards of dirt piled up and need to get belly dumps in and out to haul it off. I am sure it could be weaseled through as is but I am trying to figure out what I need to do to make it fairly easy for regular use. Not dozens of trucks a day or anything like that but going through it maybe 3-4 times a week.

It looks good to me, but I would just get some cones or even cinder blocks and rope, and put out the exact configuration in a big flat area somewhere. Put a few truck through it, and you'll know.

I think if you widen the wing and driveway a couple of feet on the right side you'd have plenty of room

Either cone/ barrel/ or singage stating drivers responable for damage to nebiors landscaping. Your gonna have steer tire damage on day one. Most local bellys will take out grass before risking a fence. If you open up a little more on the left they could button hook easy

Looks like if you make driveway wider on other side of pole an keep trucks from turning the other way in or out the grass will live without being run over by steering tires?

I think just a few more feet on the right side of the driveway would make it easier. I'm pretty sure I could make a left turn into it with my prostar and 48 ft flat.

If there's no curb your neighbors are Gunna end up with a nice dirt strip between the asphalt and their grass.

Thanks for the replies. As to the neighbors across the road their mailbox and dumpster are right at the edge of the road in front of my gate. No curb. Their fancy grass goes all the way to the asphalt. Not really worried about people driving on it because the mailbox and dumpster are blocking the way. I just need to make sure my entryway is adequate to get in.

52' from the road to the gate.... does the driver have to stop and wait for the gait to open? or is the gate open all the time during business hours?

Be ready to replace the mailbox and dumpster on the other side of the road.
